Williams is a Northern Irish peace activist, with a central position in a number of international peace initiatives. She is a visiting professor at Nova Southeastern University and founder of the Nobel Women's Initiative, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976, for her work with the Community of Peace People.
