I can often feel numb in the face of all the images that are hurled at me in today's global news stream – in the face of the human tragedy of war, terrorism and the refugee crisis. It is as if the amount of drama and desperation has exhausted me, and I have built a defensive wall to meet the images with emotional distance. Sometimes there is a picture that breaks down this defensive wall in an instant. Suddenly the lump in the throat feels very large, and maybe. . .
