I'm so tired of assholes

We are all tired of people using their power, but I am also tired of individuals now being allowed to influence the entire debate on sexual harassment.

MeToo has shaken a whole world. No one could have dreamed in advance that this social media campaign would have any consequences at all, but we still see MeToo characterizing the social debate and media image. The campaign has been a hit in the face for many, and this has been absolutely necessary. Still, the goal of MeToo is not to get rid of any assholes around – the goal is lasting change.

A societal problem. Lately, several people in positions in the media industry and politics have emerged – or been pushed forward – as assholes. It has been made clear that assholes have no place in the power positions of the future. But we don't get rid of the problem just by getting rid of some individuals.

We have to put in place how schools should deal with sexual harassment.

We have heard terrible stories from the music industry, the waitress industry, the trade union movement, actors and many more – stories that have been important for people to hear. Not because we have to find everyone who is behind the harassment and abuse, but because it makes it clear that sexual harassment is not something reserved for a group in society – it is a societal problem. Therefore, the focus and struggle must continue to be about how we can bring about political changes and attitudes to create a society where everyone can be free and safe.

Must go to the root. Now we have to look at where the problem starts and address the sexual harassment young girls are being asked to accept throughout the school run. What self-esteem and sense of security are girls left with for years being told that "he just flirts" or "maybe you should stop doing that"? We need to put in place good action plans in schools for dealing with sexual harassment and introduce self-defense courses for girls to make it clear to everyone that they are worth defending.

We cannot accept that the campaign of time against sexual harassment only results in a few top executives and politicians having to resign from office. This fight must be about a change of society, and this fight we must win!
