International poetry and literature festivals pop up like mushrooms in the woods. Poet Inger Christensen told her she could spend all year – if not the rest of her life – traveling to visit poetry festivals world wide. The offer is good for the poets. We can chill – and sunbathe on distant beaches, admire posters with photos of ourselves in the subway in Medellin, the pedestrian zone in Lima, the cafes in Antwerp. Every city with respect for itself has a poetry festival.
