A motif wrapped in gray-blue mist hides in the photograph. The mood seizes first, the meaning of the tangible comes long afterwards. I take in resting in the motif, soaking in a close and strong presence: the smell of fish fillets on the grill, damp, moss-grown, ancient stone stairs that pull upwards. A tired scrubbed back vulnerably sunk into a hot Japanese spring, smiling welcoming faces, wrinkled as smooth. The photographs are picturesque, with an inner common rhythm. . .
