Lie is previously responsible editor and shareholder in Morgenbladet (1993-2003), and then in Le Monde diplomatique (2003-2013, last three years as writer).
From 2010-2014 Lie was responsible editor for the international documentary DOX, published by the European Documentary Network. During the same period Lie also worked as a film director.
Lie has a Cand.Mag. in economics / media, plus 4 years of philosophy studies at the University of Oslo, New School (New York) and UC Berkeley (San Francisco).
