Let people in when they knock!

Now they want to check the possibility of entering Norway. To postpone the journey home, or think it will not be appropriate to find it later, they have cut or scrapped the fingerprints. People are willing to do much to create a better life. For me it could be about sacrificing a cafe tour with friends for school work. I had to have a slightly better grade to get into a study with slightly better job prospects. If you are born in other parts of the world it may be about choosing a life in a tight container on your way to an unknown place to seek a better life.

There are not many generations left before this was also relevant for Norwegians. For my older mother, it was also about staying with strangers in a cramped room and enduring a long walk. There they sat like herring in the barrel and waited. One waited and waited without any record of what day it is and when the boat would arrive. There you were all alone, and everyone you loved was left at home. The big difference between when the grandmother traveled to get a better life and for those coming to Norway now is that she did not have to cut off the tip of her fingers to have the opportunity to seek a better life.

The United States is founded by people who have come from all corners of the world and helped build the country. America was over a hundred years ago the great solution if living in poor conditions was persecuted or criminal. The United States is also today the optimal terminal for people who want to get a better life. Millions of people stand in line to enter the western part of the world. New boats are constantly arriving, filled to the brim with people, to the southern European countries. Today, there is a high probability that a person who first knocked on a door and thought this to be a happy start to a new life will find themselves knocking on a new door later. Only this time with cut off fingertips. Europe has built its walls against the rest of the world. Today's answer to the land of happiness will not have the hunters of happiness.

Norway's immigration and asylum policy is restrictive and has been so since a temporary immigration ban was introduced in the 1970s. Today you have to fit in groups to get into Norway. You enter as a refugee, asylum seeker or through an expert group to get a job. Labor immigration cannot continue to be reserved for experts and football players, ordinary people must also be given the opportunity to come to Norway to work. An honest door must be opened to Norway for people who are not refugees, but who just want a better future for themselves and theirs. A liberal immigration policy is about giving people an opportunity for a job and for a future. The World Bank has estimated that if the world's rich countries increased their workforce by 3 percent between 2001 and 2025, the world would earn $ 356 billion a year. 162 billion would go to the immigrants themselves, 139 billion to the country they move to and 143 billion to those who remain in the poor countries.

We have three choices. We can continue with restrictive rules and use large resources to pursue people who come to Norway and Europe. This means persecuting the thousands of people who cross the border and disappear underground as outlaws. Another solution is to continue the current situation with closed eyes and pretend that it is not moving. The third alternative is to relate to people moving around, falling in love with people they meet on holiday or needing a job. For a liberal, the solution is to secure a system where people can take a job or move to a new place without having to face obstacles all the way. The richest corner of the world must rally around a liberal policy in the face of the rest of the world instead of fighting over the most restrictive rules to keep people out. If people knock on the door, you open it!
