CULTURE OF PEACE: MODERN TIMES prints here an extract from the book Fredskultur. Utopia or security policy alternative? Is it possible to envisage a change of the military industry to more safeguarding of civilian purposes and preparedness?

POWER: The storming of Congress in 2021 was an attempt to reaffirm the white world that emerged with the colonization and renaissance during the 14th century. A prerequisite for colonization was the devaluation of socially constructed others who were racialized as black or dark – as backward or as non-human.
FRED: 300 activists, politicians and experts from 32 countries gathered this summer in Vienna to discuss the need and methods to restore peace in Ukraine. The Italian peace movement was a model here: in addition to huge demonstrations against militarization in Ukraine, they have carried out five major peace caravans to the country with a total of over 80 vehicles filled with medical equipment, generators, water purification equipment and other essential items.
FOOD: In refugee camps all over Lebanon and Syria, the Palestinian aid organization Jafra Foundation has been responsible for urban cultivation – with organic and short-lived herbs and vegetables. But the societal benefit extends further than that. They build planters, provide soil, compost, small plants, seeds and access to water.
